On January 1, Annemiek van Fruten showed off her new Movistar Team Women jersey and team-issued Canyon road bike. The former time trial and road race world champion has joined the Spanish Women's World Team on a two-year contract through 2022.
Van Vleuten wore the Movistar team's iconic blue jersey with the "M" logo of team sponsor Movistar Telefónica and stood with her blue, black, and white team-issued Canyon road bike, posting an image with the caption "Matching!"
He posted the image with the caption, "We're matching!
The Movistar Team Women will hold their opening training camp later this month in southern Spain, after which the official team announcement will be made.
Van Vleuten will change from the blue team jersey to the team-supplied European champion jersey design.
The Dutch rider has spent five seasons with Mitchelton Scott since the Australian team was launched as Orica AIS in 2016; her move to Movistar Team Women in 2021 was one of the biggest transitions of the season. She signed a two-year contract with Movistar Team Women, opting to take on a solo leadership role and contribute to the team's development.
Movistar Team Women has made steady progress in its first three seasons of racing in the top tier of women's cycling. The team also received a four-year World Team License last year, from 2020 to 2023, demonstrating management's commitment to the development of the women's program.
The team includes Americans Leah Thomas, Katrine Allerud, Ode Biernik, Yelena Elich, Alicia González, Barbara Guariski, Shayla Gutierrez, Sara Martín, Emma Norsgaard, Lourdes Oyarbide Paula Patiño, Gloria Rodriguez, Alba Teruel, and 14 others were announced on the roster.
