AG2R Citroen Unveils 2021 BMC Team Machine SLR01 with Campagnolo

Defending Olympic champion Greg Van Avermaet will enter the 2021 season on a familiar frame, as AG2R Citroen has announced the BMC Teammachine SLR01 road bike for the upcoming year.

Van Avermaet raced for BMC's former WorldTour team for eight seasons on BMC bikes before moving to the CCC team, racing on a gold-toned Giant TCR Disc bike after years of using Shimano Dura-Ace, Campagnolo Super Record EPS disc brake groupset.

The 2021 AG2R Citroen BMC team machine SLR 01 is a matching white frame with red accents on the top tube and a top-of-the-line Campagnolo electronic groupset.

Underneath the frame are Bora WTO and Bora Ultra disc wheels, giving the French team's BMC frame a completely Italian look.

Team manager Vincent Lavenu said that Campagnolo was happy to provide the team's components. Campagnolo is renowned in the cycling world for its performance products, its racing heritage, and its love of the sport. Combining such a great brand with our new bike partner, BMC, gives us great confidence for the new chapter of the AG2R Citroën team," Ravenu said in a press release.

The AG2R Citroën team strengthened its Classics squad this season with the addition of Van Avermaat and Bob Jungels to fill in for Oliver Naessen.

As part of the major changes in the World Tour with Bianchi, Cervélo, and Scott moving teams, the team replaced Eddy Merckx's bike with a BMC this year; BMC also supplied frames to the Qhubeka Assos team, and AG2R Citroen is one of four teams that Campagnolo supplies components to, including Cofidis, Lotto Soudal, and UAE Team Emirates. The majority of WorldTour teams use Shimano, with 13 teams using Shimano and two using SRAM.

AG2R Citroen posted a video of a team mechanic assembling a Teammachine SLR01 from parts.
