Caleb Yuan aims to win all three Grand Tours in 2021

Caleb Yuan has some big goals for 2021, his third year with the Lotto-Soudal WorldTour team. The Australian sprinter said he hopes to compete in all three Grand Tours for the first time in the same season and also win a stage in each race.

Ewan won seven of the 12 victories won by the Lotto-Soudal team last season. Although he is about 15 cm shorter than his rivals, this is a lofty goal for this sprinter, who is known for his major accomplishments on the bike.

"This year's Tour offers more options for sprinters. In other years, I didn't take part in the green battles, only stage victories," he told Net Nieuwsblad.

As for competing in the Giro d'Italia, Tour de France, and Vuelta a EspaƱa, "But that's one of my goals for 2021. Like the green jersey, by the way."

The last time a stage win in a Grand Tour was achieved by Italian Alessandro Petacchi in Fasso Bortolo in 2003.

Ewan has won five times in the Tour, two in 2020. He crossed the finish line at the front on stage 3 at Sisteron, a victory that Ewan later said was his favorite of the season. He has won a total of five Giro victories and has not won a stage in the Vuelta since 2015, when he was with Orica-GreenEdge.

"Five wins is quite an achievement, and I'll be aiming for the green jersey in the future," Ewen said of the Tour last fall.Francd's points ranking was best in 2019, when he finished second, 68 points behind winner Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe).

"My job for the team is to win," he explained in October after his victory in Scheldeprij at the end of 2020. Everyone on the team has their role and everyone is important. My role is to win races, and I am happy to have achieved that this year."

"I am very proud to be a part of this team," he said.

Euan will leave his European base in Monaco in a few days for the Lotto Soudal training camp in Spain. Due to UCI race cancellations related to the pandemic, he did not participate in Australia this January.

Ewan has only competed in two Grand Tours in the same year once, in 2019, with multiple wins in the Giro and Tour. He is still just 26 years old, and he and his lead outsmen Roger Kluge and Jasper de Baist are under contract through 2022, putting the race back in its traditional calendar position so far this year.

"There was always a chance to go to the Vuelta, but it feels like a really long year when you're not actually racing that much," Ewan said of 2020.

"Hopefully next season the cycling calendar will be normal again.
