Rigoberto Urán hacked his cycling shoes to relieve the pain of a broken toe and cut a hole in the upper of Sidi's model.
The Colombian EF Education Nippo rider broke his left toe Monday night while getting out of bed; X-rays confirmed the fracture.
"Guys, I broke my little toe in the middle of the night at the end of my bed. Sometimes I don't know if I'm good or bad. Broke it again, but it won't slow us down," Uran wrote on Instagram.
On Tuesday, Uran posted a video of him carefully inserting a knife into Sidi's cycling shoe to ease the pain of his broken and obviously swollen toe.
"Both feet are so swollen I can't get them into the shoes," he explained.
He didn't seem too impressed with his hack, but at least he could pedal on his home trainer.
Uran is currently in Colombia and will move to Europe for the 2021 season after the Colombian National Championships in early February.
He competed in his eighth Tour de France last year, finishing eighth overall, and recently extended his contract with EF Education-Nippo through the end of 2022. This season he will compete in the Vuelta a España, where he will be aiming for a podium finish in the Grand Tour.
