Amanda Spratt (Team BikeExchange) is disappointed to lose the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race and the Women's Tour Down Under, which were cancelled due to health and quarantine restrictions at COVID-19, but is confident that in 2022 the International She is confident that she will return to the calendar. [Spratt spoke from the Team Bike Exchange training camp in Spain last week.
Spratt will also miss the Australian championships, having opted to stay in Europe this winter. Australian athletes returning home for the winter are required to spend 14 days in quarantine at a hotel upon arrival in Australia. 5]
"In 2020, the organizers were able to put together a great race, but this year COVID was unable to do so due to travel restrictions."
The Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race was added to the Women's World Tour last year and won by Leanne Lippert (Team DSM, then Sunweb). The Women's Prior Tour Down Under, which held its fifth edition last year, was promoted to the 2. Pro Series, one category below the top-level races, and was won by Ruth Winder (Trek Segafredo).
The 2021 Tour Down Under and Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race for men and women were cancelled due to the global outbreak of COVID-19 making it difficult for teams to travel to Australia for the January race. The women's Tour Down Under was scheduled for January 14-17, and the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race for January 30. The men's and women's Herald Sun Tours were also postponed until 2022.
The organizers of the Tour Down Under will instead hold a four-day national event called the Santos Festival of Cycling in Adelaide from January 21-24.
Spratt won the inaugural Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race and is a three-time winner (2017-2019) of the Women's Tour Down Under. She is delighted to have a national event and is confident that two world-class races will return in 2022, and envisions the Women's Tour Down Under making the jump to the Women's World Tour.
"It's great that the Santos Festival of Cycling is still happening and that there is an event in Adelaide," Spratt said.
"I know the Tour Down Under is going to be held [next year] along with the Cadel Evans Road Race. I can totally imagine the big race being held again next year. The Women's Tour Down Under is developing rapidly, so I wouldn't be surprised if it is added to the World Tour calendar next year.
