Although no official announcement has been made, it appears that Jumbo Visma will send Primoš Roglic, Tom Dumoulin, and Steven Kruijswijk to this year's Tour de France.
Wielerflits reports (opens in new tab) that the Dutch team will send almost the same squad that competed in the 2020 Tour, with only two changes. Kruijswijk, who missed last year's race due to injury, will head to the Tour, and Mike Teunissen will also register eight riders.
The two riders who will miss out are George Bennett, who will compete in the Giro d'Italia and the Olympics, and Amund Grondahl-Janssen, who moved to Team Bike Exchange over the winter. The official roster will be announced later this week.
In 2020, Jumbo Visma made the decision to announce his Tour de France team months in advance, publicly endorsing Roglic, Dumoulin, and Kruijswijk as leaders. However, Kruijswijk crashed in the Criterium du Dauphiné and was unable to regain his fitness by the start of the Tour.
Dumoulin had to sacrifice the overall battle for Roglic, and it looked as if the Slovenian would win the race, but compatriot Tadej Pogachar (UAE Team Emirates) performed an incredible final time trial in La Planche des Belle Fils and and succeeded in turning the tables.
Wieler Fritz reports, "The technical staff has already been around the table in recent weeks, planning to start the French adventure with three leaders, Roglic, Dumoulin, and Kruijswijk. These three riders are also hoping internally to start in the Tour.
"Jumbo Visma prepared mainly against Ineos Grenadier last year, but this time we will focus on Pogachar's weaknesses. As of today, the technical staff has already discussed with the most important players what tactics they will use to hunt down Pogachar.
Wout Van Aert, who reportedly re-signed with the team, is expected to support the team's GC plans, but the Belgian, who won a stage in 2019 and two the following year, will also be looking for stage wins.
Veteran time triallist and domestique Tony Martin and American climber Sepp Kuss are in the final slots for the Tour de France team.
