Geraint Thomas reported on social media late Sunday afternoon that his stolen Ineos Grenadiers-supplied road bike had been recovered just three hours after he reported it stolen.
The Pinarello Dogma F had gone missing when Thomas stopped for coffee during a training ride in the French Riviera town of Manton, and Thomas quickly posted a photo and thanked the Manton police for the quick recovery. 'Look what showed up! I have a good story for next week's Gelant Thomas Cycling Club pod,' Thomas posted on Instagram. Along with a selfie with three military police officers and his bike, he added: "Thanks to the Manton police for their cooperation."
Thomas, who had noted in an earlier social post that he had not yet downloaded the data from the week prior to the theft, was also able to retrieve his Garmin, and a reply to his Twitter post announcing that the bike had been recovered also showed his cycle computer.
The original social post on Sunday noted that he had to use a rideshare service to get home and described his situation: "Taking an Uber home, Dogma F with F12 stickers. Random mismatched wheels, needs a wash #oneofakind".
Thomas recently returned to the south of France for the 2022 season and began training near his home in Monaco.
In October, 22 Pinheiro bikes were stolen from an Italian track team two days before the UCI Track World Championships in Roubaix. The bikes, worth approximately 600,000 euros, were stored in a van in the secure parking lot of the Italian team's hotel in Lille. Among the items taken were four gold bikes used by Filippo Ganna and his gold medal-winning Team Pursuit teammates. All the bikes were recovered by police in Romania a week later.
In September, the women's team of Team BikeExchange discovered a Bianchi bike stolen the morning of stage 5 of the Tour de l'Ardèche. The riders made a last-minute assembly with other Bianchi frames and borrowed equipment and completed the race.
