Tour Colombia to be canceled again in 2022.

According to a report in Revista Mundo Ciclistico (opens in new tab), the Tour Colombia 2.1 will not take place in 2022. This will be the second consecutive year that the stage race has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Revista Mundo Ciclistico reports that the fate of the 2022 event was decided at an executive meeting of the Colombian Cycling Federation (FCC) on Tuesday.

It was confirmed that the race will not be able to rely on sufficient government funding for 2022, as ministries and the national budget are focused on maintaining health services amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The FCC reportedly considered other funding options, but noted that its own resources are tied up in funding national races and travel for national selection. The race organization has yet to issue a formal statement on the cancellation.

The 2022 Tour Colombia was scheduled to take place February 8-23, but the race organization has turned its attention to the 2023 event. The race opened in 2018, with Egan Bernal taking his first overall win.

The following year, Miguel Angel Lopez won the race, and most recently, Sergio Iguita won the 2020 race.

Although the Tour Colombia will not be held next season, the Vuelta a San Juan will return to the calendar after a one-year absence. This Argentinean race will be held from January 30 to February 6 and will feature Peter Sagan, Remco Evenpor, and Filippo Ganna, among others.
