According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Ganna will then compete in the UAE Tour from February 20-26, laying the groundwork for a spring classic campaign.

Before moving on to Gran Canaria, Ganna visited the GoldTattoo7 studio in Brescia with teammate Pursuit riders Simone Consonni and Francesco Ramon to get a celebratory tattoo.

Ganna placed a small Olympic ring and olive wreath symbol on his chest, with the date August 4, the day he won gold in the men's team pursuit. He also designed a larger samurai wildcat tattoo on his left shoulder.

The 25-year-old Italian anchored the Italian Team Pursuit foursome and ran a fast final kilometer to beat Denmark and set a new world record of 3:42.032. Ganna won the World Time Trial in Belgium and two time trial stages at the Giro d'Italia.

Ganna traveled to Gran Canaria with fellow Team Pursuit athletes Francesco Ramon and Liam Bertazzo, Junior Team Pursuit team member Martina Algini, and Martina Fidanza, who won the world title in the scratch Roubaix race moved on with the team.

Ganna will finalize her race program and goals for 2022 at the Ineos Grenadiers training camp in December.

"I want to ride both," Ganna recently told La Gazzetta dello Sport when asked whether he would choose the 2022 Giro or the Tour.
