Lizzie Banks, 2-year contract with EF Education - TIBCO-SVB

EF Education-TIBCO-SVB announced Wednesday that it has signed Lizzie Banks to a two-year contract.

Banks was with Serratizit-WNT this season, but suffered a head injury in a crash at Strade Bianche in March that sidelined her for the season.

Banks began his career in 2018 with the now-disbanded American team UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling, racing for coach and compatriot Rachel Hederman, who now heads the EF Education-TIBCO-SVB team.

Banks said that after spending two years with the Bigla and Equipe Paule Ka teams in 2019 and 2020, followed by a year with Ceratizit-WNT, returning to an American team felt like a homecoming.

"I started my career in 2018 with the American team with Rachel Hederman as sport director, so this move almost feels like coming home. Mainly, I'm really looking forward to racing on my own bike again and the emotional high that comes with it and the feeling of pushing harder and going deeper than I ever realized was possible," Banks said in a team press release.

In the four years since turning pro, Banks has had much success, including two stage wins at the 2019 and 2020 Giro d'Italia Donne and second place at the 2020 GP de Ploué-Lorient Agromération Trophée WNT.

A fall at Strade Bianche this spring resulted in a severe concussion that kept Banks out for most of the season while he prioritized recovery.

"After a difficult year in 2021, overcoming a difficult concussion injury, Banks has much to look forward to in 2022," he said in a team press release. [EF Education-TIBCO-SVB will take a big step up next year. It is very exciting to be a part of this moment in the team's history and in a pivotal time for women's cycling.

Hederman notes the strength that Banks brings to the team and looks forward to her continued growth and success with EF Education-TIBCO-SVB over the next two seasons.

"Before her fall at Strade Bianche, Lizzie had proven herself to be one of the rising stars of the women's peloton.

Linda Jackson is the owner and founder of EF Education-TIBCO-SVB, and this longtime team is applying for a Women's World Tour license for 2022. She said she is delighted to have Banks on board.

"We first contacted her in 2018, when UnitedHealthcare was winding down," Jackson said. Jackson said, "We weren't quick enough to sign her then, so we're just glad to have this opportunity now."

"Lizzie is an incredibly talented rider and Rachel knows her well. She will be a great leader for our developmental riders and we expect good things from her as she recovers further from the aftereffects of her concussion."
