Williams Aims to Restore Health and Form in Sixth Year at BikeExchange

Team Bike Exchange continues to strengthen its roster for the upcoming season, announcing that Georgia Williams will continue to race with the team for another year.

After a successful 2018 season that included a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games Road Race, fourth place at the Tour of the Guangxi, and fifth overall at the Women's Herald Sun Tour, Williams has been suffering from injuries and illnesses have plagued him. This is caused by a lack of caloric intake and excessive energy expenditure, which in Williams' case led to a loss of bone density.

Now with a different approach to nutrition and training, Williams hopes to regain his early career form.

"I'm just as excited about my next season with the team as I was about my first. I was happy with the first half of the season this year, but we had some bad luck in the last few months. I'm looking forward to coming back stronger and preparing for the preseason."

Indeed, 2021 started brightly for Williams, as he was crowned New Zealand national champion in both road racing and time trials for the second time in his career. The rest of the year, however, did not produce the same results, as he crashed on stage 8 of the Giro, failed to start stage 9, and failed to finish the Simcoe Ladies Tour and Paris-Roubaix Femme.

Williams' double win at the All-Japan Championships, teamwork, and experience suggest that she is back on track and can build on that for next season.

"It's very exciting to be racing with the new riders in 2022," Williams said. They will be a great addition to the team and will take us to another level."

For next season, Williams will occupy a slightly different position within the team.

"Next year will be Georgia's sixth season with Team Bike Exchange. She is now one of the veterans on the women's team and we can really count on her support on and off the bike," said Brett Copeland.

"With so many new riders joining Team BikeExchange next season and all the changes we will experience, she will be an important part of the team spirit and the way we work... I am confident that we can rely on Georgia for many races throughout the year. We are very proud of her and it will be great to have her with us in 2022."
