Johnny Carrera, the Swiss agent who manages a number of stars in the pro peloton, was hospitalized in critical condition Friday night after being involved in a car accident.

Carrera, who manages Tour de France winners Tadej Pogachar, Vincenzo Nibali, and world champion Elisa Balsamo, was involved in a collision between a lorry and a Porsche that was reportedly traveling the wrong way on the A4 highway in Agrate Brianza, near Milan, He continues to receive treatment in the intensive care unit.

The Italian newspaper La Repubblica reported that the collision between the lorry and Carrera's car, which had Polish license plates, was "very violent." Carrera was trapped in the car until the fire brigade released him.

Carrera, 56, suffered head, back, and limb injuries in the crash and was admitted to the intensive care unit. The Raleigh driver was taken to the hospital and reportedly showed signs of alcohol intoxication but had no other apparent injuries.

The agency A&J All Sports, which Carrera runs with his brother Alex, issued a short message on Instagram after the accident.
