Astana-Premier Tech Announces Ben Perry's Exit

Astana-Premier Tech said goodbye to 15 riders in a social media post on Thursday, but only one rider, Canadian Benjamin Perry, has yet to announce his 2022 team.

Perry, 27, left Israel's Startup Nation after four seasons to join Astana for 2021; after negotiations with BikeExchange fell through in October, the company was in talks with Perry's former team.

Perry has one career win, a stage win at the Tour de Coria in 2019, and has spent his years as a professional cyclist primarily in one-day races and short-distance stage races. Although he has yet to compete in a Grand Tour, he has stepped up to two classic races this season, the Tour de Flanders and the muddy Paris-Roubaix.

Other riders who have returned to Astana after two years with Trek-Segafredo and three years with Bahrain-Merida include Vincenzo Nibali, who returns to Astana, and Miguel Angel Lopez, who returns after a hard-fought year with Movistar.

Also joining the team are Gianni Moscon and Leonardo Basso from Ineos and Joe Dombrowski, David de la Cruz, and Valerio Conti from UAE Team Emirates.

Leaving the team are Astana Grand Tour contender Alexandre Vlasov, who will move to Bora Hansgrohe, and Jacob Fuglsang, who will join Hugo Yule at Israel Startup Nation.

Alex Aramburu, Gorka Izaguirre, and Oscar Rodriguez to Movistar, Omar Freire to Ineos, Ion Izaguirre to Cofidis, Melhawi Kudus to EF Education Nippon, Luis Leon Sanchez to Bahrain Victorious, and Matteo Sobrero to Bike Exchange. Jonas Gregard Willsley moves to Uno-X's Pro Continental level, while Rodrigo Contreras will remain in Colombia and race for the EPM-Scott Elite team. Nikita Stalnov has decided to retire.
