USA Cycling Announces Election of Female Athlete Representative to Board of Directors

USA Cycling has announced the election of four new Athlete Representative Directors, effective Wednesday, December 1, 2021. Cali Higgins, Allison Tetrick, Meredith Miller, and Maddie Godbee will serve as Athlete Representatives, making them the first women in USA Cycling history to be elected.

Higgins will also represent USA Cycling on the Athlete Advisory Committee (AAC)

of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC). Brendan Quirk, USA Cycling's board chair, said in a press release, "We are grateful to have this amazing group of women representing our athletes on our board." [We value our responsibility to serve our elite riders very much and are excited to have these women leading us. They represent 33.3% of the board seats and are in a position to make a significant impact. The percentage of women on the Board as a whole is approaching 50%. This is a major step forward in our efforts to champion inclusion and maximize the positive impact that inclusion can have on American cycling."

Higgins has represented Team USA numerous times throughout her career, including 23 U.S. national championships in track and seven medals at the 2009-2012 Pan American Championships.

Tetrick is a retired professional road racer who won a bronze medal in the team time trial at the 2014 UCI Road World Championships and now competes in gravel racing; he has served on the USA Cycling Board of Directors since 2015.

Miller is also a retired professional road racer who represented Team USA at the 2009 UCI Road World Championships and the UCI Cyclocross World Championships from 2010 to 2016. She has worked for Rapha and now Shimano and maintains close ties to the industry.

Godby is a professional track racer who holds numerous national records, has won the UCI Track World Cup multiple times, won two medals at the Pan American Championships, and recently represented Team USA at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in both keirin and sprint.

According to a USA Cycling press release, eligibility to run for the Athlete Representative Committee is determined by the USOPC. Candidates and voters are limited to "10-year athletes."

These are athletes who have represented the United States at events such as the Olympics, UCI World Championships, and Pan American Games in the past decade.
