Winner Anacona has agreed to a one-year contract extension with Arkea Samsic and will remain with Nairo Quintana's team in 2022. The Colombian rider will be the 30th and last rider on the team's roster for next season.
"It is a great pleasure to continue riding for Arkea Samsic's team, especially as 2022 will be an important season for the whole team.
"I thank the sporting director and general manager Emmanuel Hubert for choosing to renew my contract."
The 33-year-old followed Quintana, who moved from Movistar to Arkea at the start of the 2020 season, and played a supporting role as his compatriot enjoyed a string of early successes before the campaign was interrupted by a coronavirus outbreak after Paris-Nice.
Anacona's preparation for 2021 was ruined by a training crash last winter, when he won the Trofeo Andratx at Challenge Mallorca in May, but was left out of the Tour de France's Arcère Samsic. Despite this setback, Anacona was to remain with the team for the third and final year of Quintana's contract.
"My wish is to live up to the expectations entrusted to me, either by helping the leaders or by doing well when I get the chance.
"I am happy, satisfied and motivated for 2022. I have a good feeling about the Arkea Samsic team, and I'll never forget how this team welcomed me with open arms in the second half of 2019, so I want to continue to do well."
Anacona, along with Nairo, Dyer Quintana, and Miguel Flores, are on Arkea's 2022 He is one of four Colombian riders on the roster. Nasser Bouhanni and Warren Barguil remain in place for next season, with new additions Nicolas Ede from Cofidis and Hugo Hofstetter from Israel Startup Nation. Diego Rosa has moved to Eolo Cometa, but British rider Conor Swift and sprinter Dan McRae remain. Swift won at Toro Bro Leon and is expected to be given more chances.
Arkea Samsic finished 17th in the 2021 UCI team standings, earning an automatic invitation to all one-day races on the 2022 WorldTour calendar. In addition, if Cubeca Next Hash loses its World Team status after failing to meet the UCI's first WorldTour application deadline, it will receive an automatic invitation to the Grand Tour and WorldTour stage races.
"The winner Anacona will be the 30th and last rider in the 2022 season. We have decided to renew his contract because he has the possibility to participate in the entire World Tour calendar next year," said Hubert.
"We have no doubt that he will respond to the renewed trust we have placed in him in the best possible way.
