Cedric Bollens is the final registered rider for the 2022 Lotto Soudal. The Belgian rider will step up to the World Tour after two seasons with Sport-Fländelen-Baloise.
Hailing from Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-Waver, Beullens impressed on the cobbles as an amateur, finishing second in the under-23 Tour of Flanders in 2019. At the end of that season, he was a stagiaire in Wanty-Gobert before turning pro the following year with Sport Vlaanderen-Baloise.
The 24-year-old has yet to win a race as a professional, but he is gaining experience in cobbled classics, including being in the lead group at this year's Omloop Het Nieuwsblad.
"After two great years with Sport Vlaanderen-Baloise, this is the right step in my career to develop myself further," Beullens said in a statement released by the team on Friday.
"Why did we choose Lot Soudal? The Belgian team has a great project and a good framework. Besides, I have the chance to work in the spring classics races. I love the atmosphere and the charm of the Flemish Classics."
"Last season I have already experienced World Tour races like Omloop Het Nuusblad and Ronde van Vlaanderen. I think I've grown as a rider and gained a lot of insight into racing. But at the same time, I realize that being part of a world team is a great challenge."
Bohrens is one of six new recruits to Lotto Soudal for 2022, with returning Victor Kampenaerts the centerpiece signing of the transfer campaign, while Rüdiger Selig and Michal Schwarzmann are among the other newcomers.
Caleb Yuan agreed to a new three-year contract with the team, while Philippe Gilbert, Thomas de Gendt, and Tim Wellens also stayed, as did Lot Soudal, due to coach John Lelangue's surprising decision not to retain Marc Sergeant and Hermann Frisson, lost considerable experience from Team Car.
Alan Davis from Australia and Shelley Pridham from England will join Lotto Soudal as Direction Sportif for 2022, and Jana Schiele from Astana will join as Chief Business Officer and the team's World Tour for 2023. She will be tasked with securing sponsors to guarantee the team's status.
Belgian media reported that Soudal will switch to sponsoring rival team Quick Step Alphavinir in 2023, although this has not been confirmed by either team.
