Katerina Nash (open in new tab) (Clif Pro Team) was re-elected President of the UCI Athlete Committee.
A cross-country skier turned professional cyclocross and cross-country mountain biker with a master's degree in business, Nash was first elected to the UCI Athletes Committee in 2017 as a cyclocross representative (opens in new tab). Shortly after, she was elected President of the Commission, a position she will hold for four years, and is currently on the precipice of a second term.
"I am pleased and honored that the members of the UCI Athletes Commission have once again placed their trust in me," Nash said. 'It's great to have our voices heard and I look forward to building on everything we've accomplished over the past four years. I look forward to working with the existing members who have been re-elected to the committee as well as new members with new ideas and motivation."
Within the framework of how cyclists can contribute to the governance of the sport, the UCI Athletes Committee plays an advisory role by submitting proposals to the UCI Management Committee. Primarily, it aims to promote ethics and sportsmanship, improve athletes' working conditions, and distribute information on important regulatory changes.
During Nash's first term, the committee contributed to several initiatives, including the introduction of a minimum wage for female professional cyclists, the establishment of gender equality in participation in the Olympic Games starting in 2024 (opening with a new tab), and the integration of para-cycling with able-bodied athletes in several events.
As chair of this committee, Nash serves on the UCI Management Committee, one of the UCI's main decision-making bodies, along with UCI President David Lapartient and other sport administrators. He was also elected UCI Vice President during the 2021 UCI Road World Championships.
"I would like to congratulate Caterina Nash on her re-election as President of the UCI Athletes' Commission. I would like to take this opportunity to highlight the excellent work she has done in this role, standing up for her peers at the highest international level during her first four-year term, and we can count on the valuable input of this exceptional woman, a member of the UCI Management Committee since 2018 and UCI Vice President since September 2021, for the next four years. I am very pleased to be able to do so."
