Swiss team Roland Cogeas Edelweiss has announced that it will consist of 11 riders in order to earn Women's World Tour status in 2022.
Currently registered at the continental level and known as Cogeas Mettler, the team was a surprise inclusion when the UCI released its list of applicants for a Women's World Tour license for the upcoming season.
Of the 11 riders confirmed for 2022, six will continue from this year's team: Petra Stiasny (Switzerland), Hannah Buch (Germany), Diana Klimova, Grunaz Hatuntseva, and Tamara Dronova-Barabolina (Russia), Olga Zabelinskaya (Uzbekistan).
Of special note is two-time world champion Amber Neben, who has spent the past three seasons with Cogias Mettler. A time trial specialist, Neben spent most of 2021 at the Tokyo Olympics and World Championships, finishing fifth and fourth, respectively.
Roland Kogeas Edelweiss confirmed to Cycling News that Neben is still unsure of her plans for next year. She has not yet finalized a new team or race plan for the 2022 season.
The five newly hired riders are Spaniard Ines Cantera of the Sopera women's team and the Swiss quartet of Aline Seitz, Caroline Chauveau, Leah Stern, and Caroline Baul.
Seitz, an accomplished track cyclist, joins the team after a promising road season with Team Rupel Cleaning, while young riders Chauveau and Stern will make their professional debuts in 2022.
The team's Swiss reinforcements come after Ruben Contreras told Cycling News of the importance of a Swiss WorldTour team. Roland Kogeas Edelweiss, currently registered in Russia, will be registered in Switzerland starting in January.
Roland Cogeas Edelweiss is planning a team camp in February after finalizing his registration for next year and prior to the March 5 start of the Women's World Tour calendar, the Strade Bianche.
The UCI will announce its decision on which teams will be granted Women's World Tour status for 2022 at the end of December. Laurent Cogeas Edelweiss is one of five teams applying for the six licenses.
