The MPCC (Movement for Reliable Cycling) has confirmed that despite recent statements by UCI Medical Director Xavier Bigard, who said in an interview with L'Equipe that there is little evidence that ketones improve performance, the MPCC team confirmed that the UCI would continue its policy of banning the use of ketones within the MPCC team.
MPCC president Roger Lejay told Cycling News that But more and more athletes are using ketones. If it doesn't improve performance, why use [ketones]?
Rujay also noted the concerns that MPCC team players such as Guillaume Martin (Cofidis) and Romain Bardet (Team DSM) have recently voiced about ketone use. He said, "MPCC says they don't know what is right, but we know that more and more riders are having big problems with ketone use.
UCI Medical Director Xavier Bigard told L'Equipe that "to date, there is no scientific evidence that ketones improve performance." However, the UCI currently recommends the use of ketones for their potentially harmful side effects on the digestive system, and Bigard said in the same interview that further research is needed on factors such as the amount consumed and repetition of intake.
Rujay also called for further research and praised UCI's efforts to better understand ketone use. [MPCC is on the same line as UCI and UCI is on the same line as MPCC. They want to know if [the use of ketones] is correct, so there is no problem. If it is not correct, no problem. 'So before we know that, we should choose not to use them
