Primoš Roglic warned that Jumbo Visma needs to "think carefully" about how to balance Wout Van Aert's ambitions in next year's Tour de France.
Roglic has enjoyed solo leadership over the past two years with Van Aert's lavish assistance, but both have been disappointments, losing the yellow jersey on the final day in 2020 and having his ambitions derailed by a crash this year.
After Logrich's early loss in July, Van Aat won three stages - a mountain stage, a time trial, and a group sprint - and was a strong contender for the green jersey for the points prize.
In the past, Van Aat's main job has been to support Roglic, and stage wins have been earned when the opportunity presented itself.
Jumbo Visma would then have the headache of how to distribute resources between the two leaders.
"Good question. In theory, anything is possible. We could get green and yellow jerseys, and polka-dot jerseys with sep kus.
"Wout and I have to be willing to help each other. We have to find a way for him to get the stage win and for me to make time at the same time. We have to think about that carefully."
Roglic insisted that chasing Tour de France glory was not an "obsession" and that being remembered as a "fighter" was more important.
The Slovenian won a mountain stage in his 2017 Tour de France debut, and in the 2018 event he made strides as a Grand Tour contender, finishing fourth overall; he returned in 2020 with a win at the Vuelta a España, but suffered a heavy defeat to Tadej Pogachar the day before.
In both events, Roglic showed his fighting spirit by winning the Vuelta a España, and this season he also won the Olympic time trial title.
"I would love to win the Tour, but I don't need to be remembered as the guy who won or didn't win the Tour," Roglic told Het Laatste Nieuws.
"I'd rather be remembered as the guy who fought for the Tour every time, who gave his all in every race. That's what I want to be. A fighter. The Tour is not an obsession. So I'm not disappointed that I haven't done well yet."
Asked if he is confident of winning the yellow jersey, he replied: "Yes, I believe so.
Roglic did not want to talk much about Pogachar, who is with UAE Team Emirates, took the Tour from Roglic in 2020 and dominated it again this year.
However, Roglic did not mention any tactical plans.
"That's for the media," he said. 'What do you think, should I hit you a hundred times or just once? It's about how strong you are."
