Primoš Roglic has extended his contract with Jumbo-Visma through the end of the 2025 season, extending his tenure with the WorldTour team to 10 years.
The 32-year-old Slovenian won gold in the time trial at the Tokyo Olympics and won his third Vuelta a España. He has won more than 50 races with Jumbo Visma since first stepping up to the World Tour level in 2016; at the 2020 Tour de France, he lost the yellow jersey in the final time trial and finished second behind Tadej Pogacar. He fell in this year's Tour de France, but is expected to lead Jumbo Visma in the 2022 Grand Boucle.
Roglic's current contract ran through 2023, but Jumbo-Visma team manager Richard Plug agreed to a new deal to secure the overall Grand Tour contender.
"Since I arrived in 2016, I have grown with this team. We already have quite a history together and I am very proud," said Roglic through the team.
"I made my debut in the World Tour peloton at a bit of a late age. It may have seemed easy, and the best moments may have seemed the fastest, but it wasn't always easy. Still, things moved forward quickly for me and my growth. I am not solely responsible for that beautiful moment. It was something I did with my teammates and staff. It will be great to be part of this team for years to come."
Since donning the yellow and black colors of Jumbo-Visma, Roglic has won the 2020 Liège-Bastogne-Liège, 15 Grand Tour stage wins, and three consecutive victories at the Vuelta a España.
"My goals have nothing to do with results," explained Roglic, who entered cycling after a career as a talented ski jumper.
"I want to continue to develop myself in a particular field. Physically and mentally, as a team leader and as a human being. I am in the right place to do that. We'll see what my focus will be for the next few years."
Senior Director Sportif Merijn Zeeman described Roglič as one of the pillars of the team and will play a central role in the coming years.
Jumbo-Visma has Wout van Aert, Steven Kruijswijk, Sepp Kuss, Tom Dumoulin, Jonas Vingegaard, and newcomer Rohan Dennis on the 2022 roster, while sprinter Dylan Groenewegen recently moved to Bike Exchange-Jayco.
"It is special that Primosz has once again extended his professional career with our team, and has done so his entire career to date. We are delighted and proud of that," Zeman said.
"Primoz embodies the transformation of our team in recent years. This contract extension allows us to plan and target the next few years in which he will play a central role. Primoz is one of the pillars of our team. The culture we have built together is very much true of Primoz Roglic, the player and the person."
