The organizers of the Danilit Nokere Coase have promised televised coverage and equal prize money for the women's race in 2022. The last 40 km of the women's race will be televised and the total prize money will be €20,500.
"There will be a preview with interviews at the start, live coverage of the last 40 km, an awards ceremony and interviews," organizers wrote in Cycling News on Thursday.
Organizers confirmed that Sporza on Canvas, RTBF, and Eurosport will broadcast the women's race live in Belgium on March 16. The women's race, now in its fourth edition, will start at 10:15 a.m. local time in Deinze and arrive at the famous cobbled Nokeberg at around 1:30 p.m.
"Viewers will not miss a thing, be it the race finals, the awards ceremony, or the post-race flash interviews. We are happy and proud of this new step forward. It is an additional investment to give women's cycling a bigger platform, which is good for the riders, the teams and the sponsors," said President Robrecht Botwin.
The women will race for a total prize purse of €20,500, with €18,800 going to race positions and an additional €1,500 for the QOM prize.
"We want this race to grow into a women's World Tour. This year we will increase the prize money to the same level as the men's race and we will broadcast the race on TV. By doing so, we hope to convince the UCI of our candidacy."
Race director Gil Stivers stated that 13 of the 14 women's world teams had applied to participate, but that defending champion Amy Peters' team, SD Worx, had not applied.
"Only the team of Amy Peters and the best Belgian rider Lotte Kopecky (SD Worx), who are the favorites to win, have been left off the list so far. Frankly, we are surprised. Such prize money and live broadcasts are rarely seen in other races. Ultimately, I hope all the teams appreciate our financial efforts and come to the start with their best riders."
Women's World Teams include Canyon-Slam, EF Education-Chibco-SVB, FDJ Nouvelle-Aquitaine Futuroscope, Human Powered Health, Jumbo-Visma, Rib Racing-Exstra, Movistar, Roland Cogeas-Edelweiss, Team Bike Exchange-Jayco, Team DSM, Trek-Segafredo, UAE Team, Uno-X Pro Cycling, and others have applied.
