Marta Cavalli, Women's Edition Milan - Sanremo Winner's Dream

Marta Cavalli is one of Italy's most exciting newcomers on the Women's World Tour and has long dreamed of winning the women's version of Milan-San Remo. She has a special attachment to Poggio, having spent many training camps in the Sanremo area.

"It would be great if we could skip the first part [of the men's race route from Milan] and start from Genoa on the coast. It would be a great race. I love San Remo and have practiced there many times. [Poggio is one of my favorite climbs and I ran it 15 times last year at the training camp. I know it well. I want to play a big race in Poggio against all the women's World Tour riders. Winning in San Remo is not a dream.

The Primavera Rosa, the women's version of Milan - Sanremo, was held from 1999 to 2005. Cavalli was only six or seven years old when Trixie Wallach won the last competition held on the streets of San Remo. Several riders, including Lizzie Deignan, are also hoping for the return of the famous women's one-day race.

Cavalli loves tough stage races and spring classics. This year she is targeting the Strade Bianche and Tour de Flanders in the spring, and the Giro d'Italia Donnay and Tour de France Femme in July.

"For the spring classics, I pick two big races: the Queen of the Classics, Strade Bianche, and the Tour de Flandres. I like that it's a really hard race, and only the big forces are there at the finish."

"I like the atmosphere of Siena, one of the most beautiful cities in Italy and the most important classic race in Italy. My family supports me and motivates me"

.

"It will be a busy season with many new races, including the Tour de France. The team is focused on getting the best possible result at the Tour. I am an Italian rider and I have the Giro in my heart.

"I think it is possible to do both the Tour de France and the Tour de France and give my best in both, it will be a hard month with 18 days of racing, but I will do my best."

Cavalli, 23, has grown through the elite ranks with Valcar Travel & Services (2017-2020) before joining FDJ Nouvelle Aquitaine in 2021. She was very successful in every race she entered last year, often leading her teammate Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig to success. This year, she aims to secure team victories in top-class calendars.

"I missed out on some big wins last season, but I am happy with all the results because we were always at the top. It's good to be up there and I'm always looking to improve. I want big results, but my main goal is to improve. I have a big team, they trust me and give me all the support I need.

"I had competed in many competitions in Valcar over the past few years, so I was confident on the track. I have trained properly to be in the best condition for the race. I have big goals for this year.
