Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vuelta a San Juan will not be held for the second consecutive year.
This year's event was scheduled to run from January 30 to February 6, but local authorities and race organizers announced Monday that it will not be held due to a recent spike in COVID-19 cases caused by the Omicron variant.

The organizers added that they continue to evaluate the possibility of holding the 2022 Vuelta a San Juan as a strictly national event with local teams.
At a press conference in San Juan on Monday, Jorge Chica, the state's sports director, explained that the increase in coronavirus cases in recent weeks has made it impossible to host the event.
"Throughout the health situation, the governor and the state government have always kept in mind that the priority is the health of the people of San Juan," Chica said, explaining that the decision was a necessary one.
"Besides grieving those of us who love sports, there is also the positive economic impact that these events bring.
