Hannah Burns: People Shouldn't Underestimate Uno-X

Hannah Burns (Uno-X Pro Cycling Team) puts the team's ambitions first and welcomes her move to the newly formed Uno-X women's team in 2022.

After six seasons with Canyon-SRAM Racing, 28-year-old Barnes joins the Norwegian team as one of its most experienced riders and will play a supportive role for the team.

"It was a big decision for me," he said. But I was very excited to be part of a new team.

"It was a big decision for me, but I was very excited to be part of a new team," she said. Having a women's team was a new endeavor for the team, and I wanted to be one of the riders on the team with that experience"

. I have learned a lot in my eight years as a professional and I can pass that knowledge on to the younger riders on the team"

Uno-X is a new team for 2022, but with a mix of proven and promising riders, Burns says they will be a contender for the championship once the season begins.

"There are a lot of really strong riders here, and you're sitting around the table with 18- and 19-year-olds, but you don't know that when you're on the bike," she said, citing Anina Ahtzalo and Anne Dorte Island.

"I think it's great to start the year and shock some people," she said. People might underestimate us because we are underdogs before the season even starts, but I don't think they should."

Barnes stresses that the ambition of the team and supporting the young riders are her main goals this year, but she is looking forward to some chances to run for herself.

"I think there will be several opportunities to ride with Suzanne [Andersen] throughout the season, especially in the classics. We're both very good in those races and those environments. But just looking at the training here, everyone is strong, so I don't think we'll have much of a chance to be leaders."

Outside of the bike, Uno X has already made headlines twice this season. First, in support of Elinor Barker, who will be on maternity leave this season, and then during a team-building weekend in the Norwegian forest. Barnes praised the team's approach and understanding of rider wellbeing.

"It doesn't feel like just a bike racing team, it's like a family. 'They believe that everything around racing is important. I think it's really important that everyone on the team stays healthy, stays relaxed, and doesn't let everyday life affect them."

"Right now I feel like I need moments to have some time to myself and enjoy things outside of cycling. So I think it's really great that the team is on board with that."
