Shortly after the race, however, McEwen took to Twitter to congratulate the riders on a great race and to inform them that this was his last broadcast on the station.

"You will no longer hear me on @sbs cycling broadcast. They removed me from the team to "deliver a different broadcast," McCuen said.

He later added. 'I never got a legitimate explanation, so I think someone is advancing their agenda by firing me. I loved this job and I'm really disappointed."

The tweet drew a lot of reaction from viewers, riders, and industry insiders, who were disappointed that they would no longer be able to hear McCuen's voice on SBS, which has long been an important source of free television coverage of cycling in Australia.

News about McEwen came shortly after Michael Tomalaris was dropped from the network after 30 years as a presenter of cycling and other sports on SBS.

"Robbie has been a valued member of our cycling commentary lineup at many events for the past six years, but we are exploring a different approach for 2022," an SBS spokesperson told Cycling News.

"Although his contract has come to an end, we are grateful for all that Robbie has brought to this role during his time with us.

McEwen said on Twitter that he found out two weeks before Christmas that he would be gone from SBS, however, he will join Keenan and Anna Meares on the commentary team for the Santos Festival of Cycling on Channel 7 later this month He added.
