Suzanne Andersen (Uno-X) said she was influenced by the chance to be part of Norway's first women's world team and decided to move on from Team DSM for further leadership opportunities in 2022.
After three years with Team DSM, Andersen was recruited by team manager Lars Bak to join the new Uno-X project as one of Norway's leading riders.
"Deciding whether to quit was a pretty hard decision, I had a really good time at DSM, but I thought it was the right time to move on to something else," Andersen said.
Despite his many top-10 finishes with Team DSM, Andersen often found himself in a support role.
"I was very surprised when the opportunity came up," he said. I was very surprised when I got the chance, because I think a support role is something where you forget what you're capable of doing." So it gave me confidence that I could get results, and I want to use that for this season
"It's very exciting, but also a bit nerve-wracking," she said of the pressure of being a leader.
"There are a lot of good riders here, and I want to think about how we can perform as a team, not just about my chances."
In 2022, Andersen will be a key rider in the Uno-X Spring Classic along with Hannah Barnes.
"I want to be the top rider of the Classic. My main goal is to win Flanders and Paris-Roubaix."
As one of the four Norwegian riders on the team, Andersen emphasizes the importance of the team's national identity and hopes it will help her grow cycling in her home country.
"It is very important and special. We have wanted to grow the sport in Norway for a long time, especially for women, and I think that with us being a Norwegian WorldTour team, more people will start paying attention to the sport."
Andersen is excited about the launch of the Uno-X team, which he hopes will not only help put Norway on the cycling map, but also leave its mark on the peloton.
"I like being part of building the team and thinking about what the team should be in the future. I feel like it adds something more than just riding a bike."
"I'm excited to be a part of it.
"We are going into this season to show what we are capable of."
