Bernal and Carapaz narrowly avoid a collision with a car during practice.
[Egan Bernal, Richard Carapaz, and other riders from Ineos Grenadiers narrowly avoided a series of accidents while training in Colombia this week.

The Spanish-speaking British team was training in Colombia and had to swerve to avoid animals and oncoming traffic.

On Tuesday, the racers found themselves in a particularly critical situation when they were driving down a gentle downhill when they were caught by a car driving the wrong way. The driver was trying to pass a van, which was also dragging one cyclist.

The current mini-training camp is taking place in the Cundinamarca region of Colombia, where Bernal is joined by compatriots Daniel Martinez and Brandon Rivera.

Ecuador's Olympic champion Carapaz is also participating in the camp, along with Costa Rican domestique Andrei Amador and Spaniards Carlos Rodriguez and Omar Freire.

Jhonatan Narváez is currently training alone across the border in Ecuador.

The riders were also involved in several minor scares. In particular, on the same day as the car incident, a dog threatened to jump out into the middle of the road.

The riders, who were riding two abreast, suddenly stopped pedaling and swerved to the left when they spotted the dog, but fortunately the dog did not cross their path. In another video, a dog crossed in front of them while riding uphill, but was easily avoided.

Accidents at training camps involving cars are not uncommon, with Giant Alpecin suffering a devastating group crash in 2016 and Beulah Hansgrohe being involved in a similar scenario last year. This winter, the Androni Dronehopper team had three riders injured in a collision with a car.

The mini-training camp followed a full team preseason camp in Majorca, Spain, in early January. Bernal will start his 2022 campaign at the Tour de la Provence in France on February 10 and will lead the line at the Tour de France, while Calapaz is targeting the Giro d'Italia, which he won in 2019.
