Mavi Garcia will lead the UAE Team ADQ in important races, including the 2022 Tour de France Femme.
Garcia, a climber, has impressive results in Alé BTC Ljubljana in 2021 and hopes to improve the team's performance as it takes on the Women's World Tour under new UAE ownership.
"My goal is always to improve. 'My career is always improving. But my main goal this year is the Tour de France. It's important for the team, for me, for everyone."
Despite all the attention on the team's new owner and the departure of Marlen Reusser, one of the most successful riders of 2021, Garcia said he feels no extra pressure heading into the new season.
"For me it's the same," he said. 'This team wants to win races. But there's no pressure, I'm at ease."
"I don't feel any pressure," he said.
While the inaugural Tour de France Femme is high on UAE Team ADQ's list of priorities, it is the Giro Donne that Garcia hopes to improve personally.
"I'm fifth in the Giro this year. 'But it's always difficult because all the women are so strong. It's very difficult to be above the five or ten girls at the top. But I always fight to be there, to be with the stronger girls."
Garcia is a talented climber, but admits that there are parts of the race she needs to work on to back up both her overall class challenge and her goals for the Spring Classic.
"I need to improve my time trial bike. This year the team is helping me to improve my position and aerodynamics." This is important in a stage race."
"We are also working on push and power. This isn't so good in the race. It's very important in attacks, finals, and sprints. I'm not a sprinter, but in a small group you need a bit more power.
Along with sprinter Marta Bastianelli, Garcia is one of the UAE Team ADQ's key hopes for success in 2022, but riders like Eugenia Bujak, Myke Boogaard, and newcomers Sofia Bertizolo and Erica Magnardi have "made the level in the team much better," he said.
"This year's team is even stronger than last year. There is a really good atmosphere on the team. All the girls want to support the team and they want to support me. I think it's going to be a good year for the team."
