Team DSM will rely on strength in numbers in both the 1.Pro Omloop Het Nieuwsblad on February 26 and the 1.1 Omloop van het Hageland on February 27. The team has two strong sprinters, Lorena Wiebes and Charlotte Kuhl, who will form a tough duo on the opening weekend.
In addition to Vives and Kuhl, the team includes Pfeiffer Georgi, Franziska Koch, Liane Lippert, and Florche Mackay, making for a strong classic team.
Team DSM has two outstanding players departing, Colin Labecki (nee Rivera) and Susanne Andersen.
Vives was interviewed by Cycling News during the team announcement and said that the addition of Kool and Georgi's return meant that the team would be stronger than ever, especially in the sprints.
"I am happy that Pfeiffer [Georgi] will be on the team next year. Suzanne [Andersen] left, but we have Charlotte [Kuhl], who is a really good sprinter and talented in the sprints. I think we can work very well together to make the lead-out better than last year. I think a sprint team with strong riders will put me in a good position," Wiebes said in December.
The 128-km route of the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad starts in Ghent and includes five cobbled sections and nine climbs. The Molenberg climb was removed in 2022, but the two climbs at Mühl-Kapelmühl (17 km to go) and Bosberg (13 km to go) are the toughest points in the race until the finish in Ninove.
"Omloop is the start of the classic. During the race, the racers will have to be aggressive in the hill zones to have a chance. With Molenberg off the course, the race could be a little different than in recent years. However, it will still be difficult to separate things, especially since the combination of Mühl and Vosberg will be deeply involved on the final day," said sport director Ulf Duin. [Esme Pöpelkamp replaces Lippert in the six-rider lineup at Omloop van Het Haegeland, but Duin believes the team will once again fit the cobbled circuit with its narrow Belgian roads. 128-km race will start in Thienen, and will be followed by the first race of the season at the Tilth-Winge circuit, which is the first time the team has raced on a cobbled circuit in Belgium, Tielt-Winge, and will finish at the larger circuit of Tielt-Winge.
"The Omloop van Het Hageland route has been slightly modified this year, with a large 30km loop on typical Belgian roads. It has a lot of ups and downs, narrow roads, and changes of direction. We want to take our chances in this section and then assess the race situation," said Duin.
"We have a strong group that can be aggressive at the front, but if the weather or an attack race doesn't break things up, I'm going to try to set up a sprint with Lorena as the finisher in the finale."
