Trek Segafredo has announced that Elisa Longo Borghini has extended her contract with the team for two more seasons ahead of her return to Strade Bianche, which she won four years ago
The 30-year-old Italian, who joined the team upon its founding from the defunct Wiggle High 5 in 2019 will remain with Trek Segafredo through the 2024 season.
Last year, he had arguably his best season to date, winning the Trofeo Binda, GP Pluay, and Italian road race and time trial titles, as well as a bronze medal in the road race at the Tokyo Olympics and eight major podium finishes.
"I am very happy and proud of this contract renewal. Thanks to my unique relationship with Trek-Segafredo, I have been able to make great strides as a cyclist and, above all, it has given me the best chance to express myself as an athlete," said Longo Borghini.
"It is the only place where I could find such an inspiring environment, where athletes are treated first as individuals and not evaluated solely on their athletic ability. For me, there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to stay at Trek Segafredo, and over the past three years, we have built a lot.
"We are pioneers in women's cycling and a reference for the entire movement. We are a strong and tight-knit group that, as far as I can see, is few and far between. As the years go by, our strength as a group grows. A great future awaits us all.
Longo Borghini is one of the leaders of the American team, along with European time trial champion Ellen Van Dijk, world champion Elisa Balsamo, and Paris-Roubaix fam champion Elizabeth Deignan.
"The news of my contract renewal comes on the heels of the even more exciting news of Lizzie's second pregnancy," said Longo Borghini. 'Lizzie is a friend and teammate whom I truly admire.
