Amstel Gold Race Women's, for Annemieke van Fluten, "It wasn't a good enough race".

The Amstel Gold Race is one of the few races that Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar Team) has never won, and the 2022 edition was no different. Despite an early attack on the final climb of the Cauberg, she was unable to shake off all her rivals and eventually finished fourth, three seconds behind lone winner Marta Cavalli (FDJ Nouvelle Aquitaine Futuroscope), after a sprint battle. I'm a little disappointed because I was expecting a more exciting race," said Cavalli. If I arrived at the foot of the Cauberg with such a big group, it wasn't a good enough race for me. You have to accept that this course is more for explosive climbers. Only if you arrive at Cauberg with a small group will you have a real chance. To win here, you need a group of 10 to 15 climbers at the bottom of the last Cauberg," said Annemiek van Fluten. For the women, the Cauberg is the final and decisive climb, but while the men's race is 34km to the finish, the most difficult Cauberg is 68km to the finish, followed by three laps around the finish circuit.

Only Demi Vollering (Team SD Walks) and Katarzyna Niewiadoma (Canyon-SRAM) were able to follow Van Vleuten's attack on the Kautenberg, with the other four riders bridging on the plateau after the climb.

"The first attack was planned. From 75km to go, it was a very nice combination of three climbs (Eiserbosweg, Fromberg, and Küttenberg) immediately following. From 75km to go, three climbs (Eiserbosweg, Fromberg, and Küttenberg) were just behind.

"They weren't too keen on it, so we got back together. At least I got a chance to hurt them early on." With little chance of winning a Dutch classic race in the future, the 39-year-old enjoyed the performance of her Movistar teammate Emma Norsgaard. She praised her chances of winning the Amstel Gold race in the future, while Arlenis Sierra, who was part of the breakaway group, was caught 10 km from the finish. I told Emma that this is a race she can win in the future. Today's race was a really good experience for her and she led out for me at the foot of the Cauberg. She is very young and very talented. I don't think she knows what she is capable of yet and I want to inspire her. It was also good to have Arlenis Sierra in front of me. In that sense, it was a good team situation.
