Pfeiffer Giorgi: I want to be a future Paris-Roubaix

Pfeiffer Giorgi (Team DSM) scored a top-10 finish in the second edition of the Paris-Roubaix Fam on Saturday. The unexpected result, the British champion said, has given him a different attitude for the tough cobbled races ahead.

"I'm really, really happy. I didn't expect to finish in the top 10 in Roubaix. I'm still young and it gives me a lot of confidence. Roubaix is a race that I really want to do in the future," Georgi told reporters at the Roubaix velodrome.

The 21-year-old Team DSM rider's ninth place meant that, after Paris-Roubaix fam, she was on the podium as the women's World Tour youth leader, and Georgi wore the blue leader's jersey as photographers and media surrounded the stage.

She was one of 129 historic female riders to compete in the first Paris-Roubaix last October. At the first edition last October, seasonal rain and cold weather caused mud to splatter on 17 slippery cobblestone sections, flooding the route in some sections.

She said the inclement weather made last year's race more challenging and that the two races were not similar. 'Yeah, totally. I wouldn't say they were similar, because last year there was a lot of chaos and crashes. It was definitely like a new race [today]," she said.

The women's race distance was 124 km, slightly longer than last year. But the route was otherwise the same, with 17 pavé sectors in sunny, dry conditions.

Georgi was one of the stronger riders and was near the front of the main group for most of the race. She finished in the third group, 2:22 behind solo winner Elisa Longo Borghini (Trek-Segafredo).

She said her knowledge of the cobblestones helped her in this performance.

"In last year's race, I didn't do any scouting at all. So [this year] I went in with more knowledge, more confidence, and a stronger feeling. Every year I think my knowledge of the cobblestones increases and my race [performance] improves."

Paris-Roubaix is one of the toughest races on the Women's World Tour, but Georgi said she is looking forward to future editions.

"It was really hard. But it was a lot of fun."
